PreK-4- Klassen Magic (3 books)

These very short, simple picture books are fun for PreK - 2, but don’t look away yet because
their dry black humor could be used with older readers.

3rd and 4th grade could use this text to teach “inference.”

This is a fun read, and a brilliant example of irony:

And this Caldecott Medal winning picture book could be fun for discussing right and wrong, fairness, inference and being presumptuous.

K-4 Last Stop On Market Street

This little book looks simple, but has soul. It’s about CJ and his nana, who, every Sunday after church, take the bus to a special destination. CJ finds it a drag until Nana points out various people surrounding them, and in no time kindness is being shared up, in so many ways.

This is gentle, written with a street beat, and authentic language. A beauty, as its medals attest.

Reading Level 3.3, Interest Level K-3 (with some lovely descriptive phrases and lots of food for thought.)

The Tuck family has a secret. They know where to find water that lets them live forever. But the secret is out, and some of those involved have a choice to make regarding what it means to live a life.

This novel was written over 40 years ago, but the writing of Natalie Babbitt remains fresh. Maybe she took a sip….

Interest level: grades 5 - 8,  Reading level: 5.4.
